ICANN approves registrars, and it would be expected that good faith and ethical considerations would come into play.
Here is an example of something that looks very odd...

The problem is...
That 1) The domain registrar has stayed constant. (normally when a domain drops back into the net it is snapped by one of many registrars). The previous domain holder should check to see whether it went out to a secondary market auction. (its important to assess whether it just hasn't been nabbed by the registrar and pushed to another "friendly" party.
2) That the domain on the whois has never lost its "birthdate" which infers that it never truly expired.
Sorry, but on the face of it this whole situation sucks. It would appear that registrars could well have a vested interest in allowing domain names to expire and push those to connected parties. It is not necessarily the case in this situation. But you can just see the vested interest in that outcome.
Moral of the story 1) Use a reputable registrar & 2) Always complain to ICANN on these issues. (Its the only way to get change). |
